LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) brokers do extraordinary things to improve the communities in which they work and live. Today, we introduce you to Ron I. Martinez, LIV SIR broker and Co-Founder and Board Member of the Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation (SRLF). Every year, the foundation awards several deserving Denver high school seniors with four-year scholarships to Colorado State University (CSU), with all tuition, room and board expenses covered.
Over 1,100 applications were received this year and three scholarships were awarded. The SRLF scholarships mandate that recipients demonstrate a good GPA, economic need, and personality to match that of the charismatic Sean Lough, who tragically passed away 21 years ago in a biking accident. The foundation was set up to honor the life of the CSU alumnus, who was a dear friend to many.
As part of these scholarships, the LIV SIR team partners with Martinez to take the winners on a back-to-school shopping trip to help set up their dorm rooms for their first year at CSU.
Lauren Crowder, LIV SIR Director of Operations, and Stacey Ginsburg, LIV SIR Senior Director of Creative & Production helped Bolu Saliu shop, while Martinez and fellow LIV SIR broker Kenzie Robertson helped Ferdous Amiri with his first-year college needs.
Items included new backpacks, laptops, school supplies, and dorm room essentials. The third scholarship recipient, Isabel Rose Thornton, was not able to participate in the shopping trip but did receive a gift card from the foundation.
Fundraising for the scholarships is accomplished primarily through the Denver Derby Party, which runs at zero cost with the help of donations and volunteers. The Denver Derby Party has grown exponentially over the years and is the largest derby party outside of Kentucky, with one hundred percent of the proceeds benefitting the scholarships given in the name of Sean Lough.
