Event raises money for scholarships to Colorado State University for deserving Denver area students
DENVER, CO – (May 1, 2025) – Hosted by the Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation (SRLF), the Denver Derby Party (DDP) takes place on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at McGregor Square in LoDo, celebrating the event’s 24th year. Known as the “party with a purpose,” the event is a fundraiser for the foundation which provides four-year full-ride scholarships to Colorado State University (CSU) for deserving local high school students.
The foundation was started in memory of Sean Lough, known as ‘Ranch’ to his friends, who tragically lost his life in a biking accident. Lough touched many lives with his spirit, aspirations, humor, and kindness. His close friends, all graduates of CSU, quickly came together to commemorate his spirit and give back to the community.
High school seniors in the Denver area can apply for one of the scholarships, which has helped 67 students from around the world achieve their dreams of attending college. This year, four deserving students will be awarded a scholarship.
As a founder and board member, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker Ron I. Martinez has invested in the futures of the scholarship recipients and offers mentorship and guidance to the young adults, who in many cases have few family members to offer support.
“The legacy of our great friend Sean endures through these scholarship recipients, and it’s an honor to be a part of something making a lasting impact,” said Martinez, who has been dedicated to 24 years of public service. “As a CSU alum, it’s so nice to stay engaged with my alma mater in a socially meaningful way. These kids have become a part of my life through the years, and I couldn’t be prouder to help them achieve their dreams.
This year’s entertainment lineup includes opening DJ Jacoby, Mannequin Band who perform prior to the race, and DJ Danger Foley who will keep the fun going post-race.
2025 Scholars
Scholars are notified by key members of the SRLF in a small check presentation ceremony at their high school, in advance of the DDP. The public announcement and presentation of checks will happen on the stage at MacGregor Square with CSU President Amy Parsons in attendance.
This year’s recipients are Chris Diaz of Aurora West College Preparatory Academy, Giovanni Di Tirro of Wheat Ridge High School, Mahjoba Mohammadi of Montbello High School, and Tsegab Nadado of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College.
Scholarships are given to students who exhibit the same qualities Lough possessed including having an excellent grade point average, an economic need, and a hearty personality with a love for life.
About the Denver Derby Party
This year’s Denver Derby Party takes place the first Saturday in May at MacGregor Square in Denver, and has welcomed over 3,000 guests from all over the world, including many LIV SIR brokers and support staff. Over the years, the party has raised $7.5 million, sold 152,000 tickets, and given out over 60 scholarships. 100% of all proceeds are used to fund the SRLF.
