Colorado Real Estate Broker Makes Waves at the New York City Marathon

Became First American Finisher in Last Sunday’s Race

Denver, CO (November 14, 2024) – LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) proudly congratulates Boulder broker Sara Vaughn who finished sixth in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, 2024, and was the first American to cross the finish line, clocking in at 2:26:56.

Vaughn ran track in college and beyond, and in 2017 made it to the World Championships in London. A well-known figure in the running world, she dropped out of the Olympic Marathon Trials in February after she struggled to adapt to the humidity in Orlando. She recently dropped out of the Chicago Marathon after contracting COVID, even though she was still able to complete nine miles.

Her impressive performance in last Sunday’s marathon unlocked her potential and proved that with tenacity and mindset remarkable achievements are possible. In fact, Vaughn considered not attending the NYC Marathon so she wouldn’t miss one of her daughter’s Colorado state cross-country meets. Instead, her daughter encouraged her mom to head to the Big Apple telling her she “had to go.”

For the 38-year-old mother of four, this is her highest finish in a major marathon since finishing seventh in Chicago in 2023, with a personal best of 2:23:24. 55,000 runners participated in the 53rd annual race which winds through all five boroughs of New York City. “This tops the highlight reel of my career. The NYC Marathon is running’s biggest stage. The fans were electric! And there’s a special sense of pride being the top American on U.S. soil,” said Vaughn.

Vaughn finished just two minutes and 20 seconds behind the race winner, Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya. She was also the lone American in the leader board holding her position well past the twenty-mile mark. She counts two factors as leading to her success as a runner, taking time off of work to focus on running so as not to be stressed leading up to a marathon. And eating more than she thinks she needs which helps ward off injury and keep her fueled through long training sessions.

“Our brokers lead by example, demonstrating to their clients how to live the life they love by pursuing their personal passions. Sara is the perfect embodiment of this philosophy. Her determination and remarkable comeback are truly inspiring,” said Shannel Ryan, President of LIV SIR.

As a leader in Boulder real estate, Vaughn has found a career which allows her the flexibility to train and focus on what is important to her. Next, she would like to run a marathon in the spring, and hopefully head to the World Championships in Tokyo later in the summer of 2025.

For those interested in completing a marathon, Vaugh has some simple advice. “Prioritize your training like you do anything else. I live by time-blocking. My morning training, which I call my morning meeting, is scheduled just like anything else. Being ready to run a marathon takes time and commitment, which are transferrable skills to real estate advising.”
