Celebrate the creative genius of both man and nature during an extraordinary outdoor exhibition of glass works by renowned artist Dale Chihuly, June 14-Nov. 30, 2014, at the Denver Botanic Gardens’ York Street location.
The exhibit is Chihuly’s first outdoor installation in the Rocky Mountain area. Twelve pieces, including a 30-foot tower, will grace the gardens, adding eye-popping color and dramatic shapes to the lush, 24-acre urban oasis. A members-only night, along with related programs, special tours, night-time viewings and activities for children and adults will complement the exhibition.
Chihuly is an internationally recognized master glass artist, particularly on installations that harmonically blend art and landscapes. While his work has evolved dramatically through the years, much of Chihuly’s art continues to reflect his enduring interest in the outdoor intersection of art, architecture and the natural environment.
“The iconic artwork will enhance the gardens’ living collection as a powerful yet graceful way that is at once familiar and other-worldly,” said Brian Vogt, the gardens’ CEO. Tickets are now on sale and patrons are strongly encouraged to purchase them in advance. While excellent tickets for the exhibit and special presentations are available, one event, a June 12 talk by the artist, has sold out.
The DBG will frame the Chihuly exhibit with the launch of a new after-hours program, called Unwind. Promising a feast for the senses, Unwind will feature art, food, drink and entertainment under starry Colorado skies. The June 12 debut will provide art lovers an exclusive opportunity to see the Chihuly exhibit before it opens to the public.
Chihuly has pursued perfection in his chosen medium since the 1960s. He was instrumental in pioneering the American studio glass movement and is considered a preeminent influence on the entire field of contemporary studio glass.
